Even if you are new to the world of entrepreneurship, you must have heard of Quickbooks, the revered software that has been around for more than 25 years and has constantly seen new and better upgrades, designed to make accounting swift and dynamic.
In 2001, the company also rolled out Quickbooks Online, a real-time cloud-based solution that expanded the horizons of dynamic accounting. Most business owners have trouble deciding between the two, so we have some pointers to help you choose between Quickbooks Desktop and Quickbooks Online.
Quickbooks Desktop is available for Windows, Mac and Chromebook, so it allows you to use your existing machines for running the software. However, using Quickbooks Online eliminates the need for any cross-platform compatibility as it can be run on all platforms, and can also be accessed and used through smartphones and tablets.
Nowadays, even small businesses require employees and stakeholders to work from various locations, which emphasize a need for an online platform that can be used from different locations. This is where Quickbooks Online comes in, as it is a cloud-based application that is easy to use and accessible from anywhere.
Quickbooks Online is especially useful for companies with employees who spend more time in the field, as they can easily create invoices, record transactions and take customers’ input with the mobile application.
Does your business require you to restrict or control access for certain employees or users? Quickbooks Desktop provides you more control over the permissions. You can also do the same in Quickbooks Online, provided you use it with a CRM tool. It also allows you to modify which data a particular user can access, modify or delete.
More often than not, you will require the use of similar accounting services or software to get specialized tasks done, and this is something you will have a problem with while using Quickbooks Desktop, as you will have to download the software on each machine that you want the service to run on.
On the other hand, Quickbooks Online provides swift and rapid integration of more than 500 services, which you only have to add once. After that, you will be able to use them from any device.
Lastly, it all comes down to pricing. Quickbooks Desktop solutions allow you to pay a one-time fee, after which you get the software for a lifetime. While this seems like a bargain, you have to bear in mind that you will have to pay the same or a greater amount for a newer version of the software in 2-3 years.
Conversely, Quickbooks Online has a monthly or yearly subscription that provides you access to the full features, as well as regular updates as soon as they are rolled out by Intuit. In the long run, this seems like the more sensible option.
Before you make your decision, make sure to evaluate your requirements from the Quickbooks application you are looking to implement in your company. It is best to take note of the ways the application will be used in your company, and also ensure that your choice is in line with your long-term goals. Rest assured, you will get nothing but quality services when you choose Quickbooks!
